How to use PDF Viewer

A complete, step-by-step guide from opening your first PDF to editing, signing and sharing. It takes about five minutes to read.

Quick start

Six steps from install to your first edited PDF.

1

Install and open the app

Install PDF Viewer from Google Play and open it. The home screen shows an Open PDF button, quick tools and your recent files. No account or sign-in is needed.

Tip: You can start reading right away. The next steps just unlock more.
2

Allow file access (optional)

Open the Gallery tab and tap Allow access so the app can list every PDF on your phone. Prefer not to? Tap Choose folder and pick the folders you want, or simply open files from your file manager.

Tip: You can change this later in Android Settings → Apps → PDF Viewer → Permissions.
3

Open a PDF

Tap Open PDF on Home, pick a file from the Gallery, or open any PDF from your file manager, browser, e-mail or WhatsApp and choose PDF Viewer.

Tip: Tap the screen once to hide or show the bars.
4

Read comfortably

Swipe to scroll, pinch or double-tap to zoom. Use the bottom bar: Pages, Search, Edit, the theme button (Day / Night / Sepia) and Reading for scroll or Book mode, brightness and keep-screen-on.

Tip: Drag the slider above the bottom bar to jump quickly through long documents.
5

Mark up and sign

Tap Edit, pick a tool (Pen, Marker, Text, Box, Oval, Line, Arrow, Eraser, Sign or Image), draw on the page and tap Save. A new copy appears in the Output tab.

Tip: Your original PDF is never changed.
6

Use the Tools tab

Open Tools for Scan, Image to PDF, Merge, Split, Organize pages, Watermark, Page numbers, Compress, Protect, Unlock, PDF to images and Extract text. Choose a file, set options, and tap the button at the bottom.

Tip: Results always open in a success screen with Open and Share buttons.

Merge, split & organize

Unlock

Pick the protected file, enter its password and create an unlocked copy.

App lock

Turn on App lock in Settings to require fingerprint, face or screen lock when the app opens.

Settings → Privacy

Files, Output & settings

Gallery

Switch grid or list, sort, search, filter by folder chips and long-press to select multiple files.

Gallery

Output PDFs

Open, rename, share or delete anything the app has created. Files live in Documents/PDF Viewer so other apps and your file manager can see them too.

Settings

Choose Light / Dark theme, language, default view mode and reading theme, keep-screen-on, sharp zoom, app lock and clear recent files or cache.

Home → gear icon

Troubleshooting

The gallery is empty

Tap Allow access on the Gallery tab and enable “Allow access to manage all files”, or add a folder with Choose folder. Then pull back to the app — it refreshes automatically.

“This PDF is password protected” in a tool

Use Tools → Unlock first, then run the tool on the unlocked copy. In the reader you can enter the password directly.

I can’t select or search text

The PDF is probably a scan (pictures only). PDF Viewer does not do OCR yet, so there is no text layer to select.

Compress says the file is already optimized

The images inside are already small. Try a stronger level, or Maximum if you don’t need selectable text.

Scan is not available

The scanner needs Google Play services. Update or enable Google Play services and the Play Store, then try again. Image to PDF works without it.

The page looks blurry while zooming

Wait a moment — sharp tiles render after you stop. Make sure Sharp zoom is on in Settings → Reading.
